MODULE 7: BUDGET
Ask most church treasurers how they track the church's finances and they'll describe some combination of QuickBooks, a spreadsheet the previous treasurer built five years ago, and a folder of bank statements nobody's fully reconciled since October.
It's not a people problem. It's a tools problem. Accounting software built for businesses doesn't map cleanly onto how a church manages money — donations as income, multiple funds, ministry-based spending categories, financial goals tied to building campaigns or annual ministry budgets.
FaithPilot Budget is built for how churches actually think about money. Not transactions in a vacuum — stewardship with a purpose.
Spending

Spending Dashboard — Your Church's Financial Health at a Glance
The Budget dashboard opens with three numbers that matter:
Total Income: $16,085k — up 32.45% from last month. Financial Goals: $25,786k — down 32.45% from last month (a reminder that goals and actuals are tracked separately). Total Expense: $27,432k — down 32.45% from last month.
These aren't just figures — they're trend indicators. Green arrows mean up, red arrows mean down, and the percentage change tells your finance committee in one second whether the church is moving in the right direction without opening a spreadsheet.
Below the KPIs, the Total Statistics chart shows $83.45k in combined activity, up 32.40%, with Revenue (blue) and Expenses (green) displayed as side-by-side daily bars across the week. Switch between Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or custom date ranges to match whatever reporting period your finance team works in.
Transaction History sits at the bottom — a live ledger showing every transaction with ID, date, category, type (Income or Expense), amount, and notes. Filterable by transaction type. Searchable by keyword.
Forcasts

Transaction History — Every Dollar In and Out, Logged and Searchable
The full Transaction History view is your church's complete financial ledger.
Each row shows Transaction ID, date and time, category, type, amount, and notes. Real examples from the dashboard: a Groceries expense of $3,000 (Purchase at Supermart), a Salary income of $50,000 (Monthly salary), Rent expense of $10,000 (Monthly rent payment), Dining Out expense of $1,500 (Dinner at The Olive Garden), Interest income of $500 (Interest from savings account), Utilities expense of $2,000 (Monthly utility bill).
Two actions sit above the table:
Update my last transactions — sync recent transactions automatically so your ledger stays current without manual entry.
Add manual transaction — for cash donations, petty cash expenses, or any transaction that doesn't flow through a digital channel.
The combination of automatic sync and manual entry means your ledger is always complete — not just the easy digital transactions, but everything that actually moves through your church's finances.
Analytics

Financial Forecast — Know Where You're Headed Before You Get There
This is the feature that transforms FaithPilot Budget from a ledger into a planning tool.
The Financial Forecast view — labeled "Boosted by AI" — lets your finance team set goals, model income and expenses forward in time, and see projected outcomes based on current trends.
Q4 Budget Target shows a clear progress bar: $7,200 raised toward a $10,000 goal — 72% reached. Below the bar: "Expected to reach goal by Dec 18 if pace continues." That's not a calculation your treasurer has to do manually. FaithPilot runs it automatically based on your current giving trajectory and tells you the projected date you'll hit your goal.
If the pace slows, that date changes. If a major donation comes in, it updates. Your finance team always knows whether you're on track — not at the end of the quarter when it's too late to adjust, but now, when there's still time to act.
Forecast Analytics shows Revenue vs. Expenses projected forward across the same weekly bar chart used in the Spending dashboard — visual continuity so your team isn't learning a new interface for every view.
Forecast Transactions lists every recurring income and expense factored into the projection:
Online Donations — Income, +$2,500.00, Weekly, "Recurring Sunday giving"
Office Rent — Expense, -$1,200.00, Monthly, "Monthly rent payment"
Add any income or expense line item with a frequency (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually) and a note. The forecast updates in real time. Your projected Q4 outcome is always current.
The Set Goal button lets you define financial targets per period — this week, this month, next 3 months, or a custom date range — so your budget planning aligns with how your church actually sets its annual ministry goals.
Why This Matters for Church Boards
Most church boards meet once a month. By the time the treasurer prepares the financial report, the data is already 2-3 weeks old. Decisions get made on stale numbers, and nobody finds out about a budget shortfall until it's already a crisis.
FaithPilot Budget changes the information cycle. The spending dashboard is live. The forecast updates continuously. Board members with access can check the church's financial position any time — before a meeting, after a major expense, during a giving campaign.
That's not just convenience. It's the difference between reactive financial management and proactive stewardship.
David Kinnaman at Barna Group has written extensively about the trust gap between churches and their congregations — and financial transparency is one of the most direct ways to close it. When your leadership team actually knows the numbers in real time, they can communicate with confidence. And congregations that trust their church's financial stewardship give more consistently.
The Budget module isn't just for the treasurer. It's for every leader who's responsible for saying "we're doing well" or "we need to be careful right now" — and meaning it.
